The Paramount Ruler of the Idoma nation, Agabaidu Elias Ekoyi Obekpa has endorsed the proposed ECHIJA, a day set aside to showcase the Idoma cultural heritage during this Yuletide.
Agabaidu gave the endorsement yesterday at his palace when the team led by Prince Davinci Amedu Iklaga paid him a courtesy visit.
The father of the Idoma nation who said that the idea was a noble one called on all Idoma sons and daughters to embrace the tradition, culture and customs of the Idoma people saying that every community does that and that the Idoma people should not be an exception.
He called for amongst the Idoma elite as according to him, "United we stand but divided we fall".
Earlier, the spokesman of the organizer of ECHIJA, Dr Adakole Elijah intimated the royal father that the group had set out 28th of December, 2019 to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Idoma people.
He explained that the date would also be used to reinvent some special and unique Idoma Masquerades that have gone into extinction so as to provide opportunity to the younger generation to view and know our rich culture.
Dr Elijah said no nation can progress without recoursing to their cultural heritage as according to him, the opportunity would also be utilized to the younger generation the culture of morality.
He disclosed that the Masquerades would commenced procession from the old Otukpo Stadium near Upu/Otada junction and terminate at the Och'Idoma's palace where His Royal Highness would have a word or two for the Idoma people.
